Custom Floating Wooden Shelves for a Kitchen

This project in Porto Cristo was part of a kitchen renovation. The client asked for floating wooden shelves that would match the existing countertop and feel like a natural part of the kitchen.

Every custom project starts with a conversation. We meet, talk about ideas, and look at what would work best in the space. After the price estimate and the go-ahead, measurements are checked on location. On Mallorca, every house is different. Walls are rarely perfectly straight, which makes custom work interesting and always a bit unique.

For this project, all shelves were cut from one large wooden slab so the colour and wood grain stay consistent. Some preparation was done in the workshop, and then everything, including tools and machines, was brought to the site. On location, small adjustments are often needed to make sure the shelves fit exactly as they should.

The shelves were mounted with a hidden fixing system so they appear to float on the wall. Finishing touches like varnishing or painting sometimes mean coming back another day, but that’s all part of getting the right result. In the end, the shelves blend in perfectly with the kitchen and add both warmth and practical storage.
